LAKE ERIE MULTIHULLS 2010

Gary Hall Series

Way back in 1997, Fred Babson and Mark Kelly pitched the concept of the Western Erie Sailing Association to promote the sport of sailing for both Cruising and Racing sailors.  The WESail Series culminated in individual championships for each fleet, including a championship for Multihulls. Boats from across the shores of Lake Erie, from Detroit to Cleveland, participated in these events.  Lake Erie Multihulls borrowed their moniker for our own race series and a single-handed multihull sailor, Ray Mason III and his company, Columbus Truck and Equipment answered the call to sponsor all the First-to-Finish Flags and the Multihull Championship, donating a flag we called the Top Dog Flag. Ray was our benefactor for 5 years.

Jim Heron, Product Rep for Mike’s Hard Lemonade, stepped forward in 2002 as the sponsor for all the First-to- Finish Flags for the Point-to-Point Races like the Mills Race, Sandusky Is. Race, Green Is. Race, etc.

Now we have another benefactor, Gary Hall, who generously donated a sum of money, which we will use to sponsor the Multihull Championship.  We’re looking for a Perpetual Trophy, and of course, there will be a championship flag.  We’ve renamed the series the Gary Hall Series.

Below you will find a tentative schedule for the 2009 series.  Your five best races out of the nine designated races will count toward the series with at least one race from each of the three regions; East, West and Central.   I-LYA Bay Week Regatta, Fall Bay Regatta and the Trans-Erie Race will count as either East or West.
